Recommended Food for Healthy Dogs

I get asked pretty often about which dog foods are best, so I thought I would do a handful of posts to share which ones I suggest!

This first blog post for my "Food Series" will focus on normal, healthy dogs. To get a specific food recommendation for your pet, please fill out THIS pet profile and I will email you my suggestion.

The majority of us do not have time to prepare raw or home cooked meals for our pets. And that is okay! It is okay if you feed raw. It is okay if you prepare home cooked meals. And it is okay if you feed kibble!

The focus of this blog post is on Kibble & other prepared food. We can save the raw or home cooked blog topic for a later day.

Generally speaking, I have a handful of things that I look at when I look at a Kibble and Prepared Food manufacturer & the ingredients they chose to put into a food.

  • Real meat, poultry, or fish is the first ingredient

  • No by-products

  • No corn, wheat, or soy

  • No added sugars or sweeteners

  • No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives

  • Contains fruit & veggies

  • Contains Taurine

  • Contains probiotics

  • Made in the USA

So, what is a "Normal, Healthy Dog?"

It's pretty simple actually!

  • Pink Tongue with normal amounts of saliva

  • Clear, Focused Eyes

  • No outward Health Problems

  • Clear Skin & Hair Coat

The proteins I recommend to my clients for dogs that are "Normal & Healthy" include Beef, Pork, Salmon and Tuna.

Here are the foods that, after a lot of research, are based in those proteins and I would suggest feeding (in order of my preference).
